Chungbuk University Museum
Introduction
Purpose of Establishment
Our museum researches, collects, studies and exhibits ancient relics, historical art, applied fine arts and folk customs in order to provide research work to faculty and students for easier understanding of our history and culture.

Organization
For effective management of work, the first and second research office and administration office are established with a steering committee for consulting management of the museum.

History

Sep.27, 1970 Part of the former agriculture college building and the second floor of
administrative building were used as an exhibition room for agricultural
appliance of the agricultural department's laboratory which established
agricultural museum and general museum.
Dec.16, 1971 Selected as a burial culture assets depository from Ministry of Culture
& Information for preservation and administration of excavated burial
culture assets in Chungbuk Province
Feb.26, 1974 Moved and expanded the museum from the second floor to the third
floor of the administrative building. Exhibited relics of prehistoric age
and history age
Dec.31, 1977 Promoted from college to university. Renamed to Chungbuk National
University Museum.
Apr. 7, 1981 Relic arrangement room installed for arranging prehistoric relics on the
fourth floor in the educational college building
May 13, 1982 Owing to increasing number of prehistoric relics, extra exhibition room
was installed in the agricultural college building
Jan. 27, 1986 Prehistoric relic room installed on the third floor of the electronic
computations building for arrangement, preservation, research and
exhibition.
Oct. 10, 1990 Combined the relics which were on the third floor of the administrative
building by moving them to the third floor of the electronic computations
building which activated the museum's function of systematic display
from Paleolithic to Modern Age
 
Activities
Surface Study
The research was initiated by studying submerged areas of Daecheong Dam (1975~1976), Chungju Dam (1978~1980) through Jungwon Cultural Region (1980~1984), Jungbu Express Way (1985~1986), Jungang Express Way (1992), Cheongju Bongmyeong/Sinbongdong Industrial Development Region (1993) and Jungbu region of the Seoul-Busan High Speed Rail Construction Project (1996), summing up to 35 times of investigation.

Excavation
Over a period of 58 excavations, including Cheongwon Duru Ridge Cave relics of Paleolithic Age (1976~1983), Cheongju Sinbong-dong burial mound of Baekje Kingdom (1982, 1990, 1992, 1995), Chungju Dam (1982~1985), Danyang Suyangae relics, Chungju Jodong-ri relics (1996, 1997, 2000), Cheongwon Soro-ri relics (1998) and Danyang Gunang Cave relics (1998).
Exhibition
Permanent Exhibition
Of the permanent exhibition rooms, the first exhibition room displays 849 relics by period and types from the Paleolithic to Modern Age with a Sun Seong Jwa Ri Sa Deung Gong Sin Nok Gwon Treasure No.716.
The ancient relic exhibition room shows relics by time period.

Arts and folk relics are exhibited by the classification of time and types in order to use them for education. Danyang Suyangae relics, Danyang Gunang Cave relics and Chongwon Duru Ridge relics of Paleolithic Age are the features displayed that are especially distinct.
Also, Important Folklore Item No.109, 117, 118 and 217 are dresses from 16th century to 17th century of the Joseon Dynasty, which are distinct features exhibited in our school museum. Currently, our museum plans to expand and move in the year of 2001, while expanding the permanent exhibition to four rooms.
The second exhibition room is being used as a special exhibition room, which held 13 special exhibitions. Currently, a new special exhibition is being planned.

Outdoor Exhibition
There is about 9,917 §³ of outdoor exhibition space available in front of the museum. Jecheon Hwangseok-ri menhir, Jecheon Bangheung-ri dolmen, Seungju Usan-ri dolmen, the Unified Silla Period stone Buddhist image, Goryeo Kingdom Three-Stair Stone Tower and Joseon Dynasty Five-Stair Stone Tower are included in the 65 items being exhibited
