Museum Organization |
Literary Laboratory |
| For
effective preservation of cultural properties
and figuring out the original form, scientific
preservation treatment for metallic items
were carried out since April 1979 and from
March 1980, we established scientific preservation
laboratory prior to other university museums.
The objects for preservation treatment are
the ones that are severely corroded among
our museum's excavations and collections.
However, we also treat items from other organizations.
The major treatment relics were gilt-bronze
crown, armor, helmet, Silver laid lotus design
sword(Jisan-dong Goryeong No.32), Maju(Bokcheon-dong
Dongnae), iron plate armor (Busan Metropolitan
City Museum collection), gilt-bronze horse
saddle blinders(displayed at our museum),
helmet(Jisan-dong Goryeong No.1-3 excavated)
and gilt-bronze crown(excavated at Ji-dong
Andong). |
Scientific preservation laboratory |
| Literary
laboratory was established simultaneously
with the museum in May 1978, which its primary
operations are exhibition, research on relics,
investigation and management of relics. In
case of research on relics, surface investigation
and excavation was held for cultural relics
distributed over Daegu-city and Gyeongbuk
province region annually. Especially, planned
excavation was held five times at Goryeong
and Seongju area of Gaya age tumulus. Since
then, relics of various ages were excavated
at Songjuk-ri Gimcheon, Jirye-ri Andong, Hwangseong-dong
Gyeongju and Gyo-dong Gimcheon. On the basis
of these excavations, research papers publication
supplied important data for systemizing the
ancient history and restoring the culture
in this region. |
Museum Development Project |
1.
Goals
Utmost efforts from our
museum offer historical, cultural, and ancient
living experiences not only to our students,
but also to the public. In addition, active
efforts on contributing regional culture by
education with data to be an advanced education
center in the community.
2. New Museum
A beautiful and functional
museum design was elected in late September
2001. The new museum will have exhibition
room, culture laboratory, scientific preservation
laboratory, treasury, seminar room, museum
shop, and museum cafe with plenty of resting
room, outdoor exhibition space and social
education space.
Half century of our school history and future
development will be shown at the teacher's
room in the exhibition room. Antiquity room,
art room and folk room will be decorated interestingly
with diorama, panorama and model making techniques.
3. Strengthening Social Education Function
and Practical use of Cultural Space
Public information room
of education has the best facilities for the
experts in this field to lecture by way of
audio-visual materials. The room can also
be used for musical playground, drama and
dancing. Comfortable resting room will make
this place as a cultural area for the students
and the public who visit here.
4. Computerization of Museum's data
Currently, our museum
has been selected as an organization for National
Cultural Inheritance of Constructing Synthetic
System (Second) Project. About 4000 items
are in registration progress. Continuous computerization
of 10,000 items in our museum, are in progress.
The information and data will be opened to
the public at our Internet homepage.
5. Expansion of Scientific Preservation Laboratory
For more effective and
practical preservation of cultural properties,
most up-to-date equipment will be ensured
for the permanent preservation by scientific
treatment. Furthermore, we are willing to
play an important part preserving the cultural
properties by using this laboratory as a practical
education center |

Exhibition Contents |
| Exhibition
room is composed of two rooms |
The
First Exhibition Room displays the relics
that our museum has excavated such as relics
from Neolithic era and Bronze Age. The relics
from Neolithic Age are mostly earthen vessels
and stoneware excavated from subterranean
dwelling, where they are exhibited distinctively
by style. Earthen vessels are comb-pattern
pottery with pointed bottom and rounded bottom
bowl. Vessels with no figure or pattern are
rounded bottom bowl, black colored vessel
and hetero-vessel. For stoneware, there are
arrowhead, stone axe, plow, grinding stone,
stone grinding pestle, grindstone and netting
weigh exhibited. Others are excavated from
outside the dwelling, which are distinctive
earthen vessels. We restored a small stoneware
workshop, which will help people understand
how they are made in the Neolithic Age.
For Bronze Age, burnished red pottery, some
non-figured bowl, pot, spindle whorl and netting
weigh from subterranean dwelling and dolmen,
arrowhead, stone knife, stone axe, chisel,
semi-lunar stone knife, spindle whorl and
grindstone of stoneware are displayed. In
addition, Korean mandolin bronze sword, ball-shaped
bead and tubular jade are exhibited with photos
taken during the excavation.
The Second Exhibition Room displays about
3,000 ancient coins donated by professor Jeon
Suk-gil of nuclear medicine in our school,
ancient Chinese coins from salvaged wrecked
ship in Shinan and several other Korean relics.
The coins exhibited are goods used for exchanging
in prehistoric period, metal coins in the
Period of the Three Kingdom, Donggukjungbo,
Haedongtongbo and Samhantongbo in Goryeo Kingdom,
Joseontongbo, Sipjeontongbo and Sangpyeongtongbo
in Joseon Dynasty. Paehwa, Pojeon, and Dojeon
in Sunjin Dynasty, Bannyangjeon of Jin Dynasty
and Osujeon, Hwacheon in Han Dynasty of China
are displayed also.
Although most items are from professor Jeon
Suk-gil, some various kinds of examples are
added, especially, those which are excavated
and researched from domestic academic facilities.
Comparison between ancient Korean and Chinese
coins makes it possible to help the public
understand the history of coins more easily. |
