Kyungnam University Museum
Kyungnam University Museum (henceforth) has shown lots of activities during the last 25 years since November 18, 1976 when it was established. During the initial period, classrooms were transferred to small exhibition room through remodeling which only displayed approximately 600 items, but currently the exhibition room itself is 264§³. with storage room, morgue, literary research room and arranging room summing up to 991§³. The number of relics nearly reaches 5000 and thousands of treasure troves are being in custody through excavation.
Our museum has put into effect approximately 20 times excavating and surface research of the Bronze Age items and Gaya relics in the southern region resulting 10 volumes of research report and Publication of contents book. In January 1996, 135 items of our cultural properties has been returned to our custody from Yamaguchi University in Japan. Continuous publication of Hanma classical book collection is in progress based upon the restoration of our cultural properties. We also established Gara Culture Institute attached to our museum which publishes "Gara Culture" and studies the Gaya region.
Continuous research and study of prehistoric age and ancient culture will be carried out. In addition, the museum will be opened not only to students, but also to the public for closer ties with the community.
 
Representative relics
Kerneled Cup
This is an earthen vessel excavated from Mukgok-ri Sancheong dolmen. An earthen vessel can make a sound of a bell by shaking the kernelled cup made with clay. Its height is 7.6cm.
 
Tubular Jade
This is a necklace with the 167 pieces of tubular jade, excavated in Dukcheon-ri Changwon the 2nd dolmens site, which is considered as a representative relic of the Bronze Age.
 
Earthen Vessel with one ear
This is an earthen vessel excavated from Mukgok-ri Sancheong dolmen. And its length is 4.2cm.
 
Scrubbed and polished pottery
Excavated from Daepyeong-ri Jinju relic Eoeun region No.1.
A red earthen vessel buried in the tomb or used as a special tool. Scrubbing the vessel in order to make it polish is one of the skills of processing surface.
 
Colored Pottery with egg plant design
Excavated from Daepyeong-ri Jinju relic Eoeun region No.1.
A light brown earthen vessel decorated with a black twig shaping. This is a representative relic of the Bronze Age.
Height: 10.5cm.
 
Colored Pottery with egg plant design
A Bronze Age memorial service relic excavated from Gapo-dong Masan. This relic is very rare using bronze for memorial service. The body of this bronze spear with the diamond shape was first to be found in Korea, and bronze ritual relics are rare.
 
Pottery with carved embossing rim
Excavated from Daepyeong-ri Jinju relic Eoeun region No.1. It is one of the relics to represent the Bronze Age.
 
Hongundangcheop (Drawing book)
The painting describes black bamboo, iris, bird, flower, mountain and water. The papers used for painting various to silk and fabrics. This painting shows various paintings of middle and late years of Joseon Dynasty, scholar's drawings including Jeongseon's drawing.
 
Painting of standing lieges
The painting shows people who are writing poems by command of King Yeongjo at Chundangdae in the memorial of completing the dredging operation. In the painting, the lieges stand in six lines and at the center, Obongbyeong is placed which symbolizes the king.
 
Giljae's writing in Myeonghyeongandok
Myunghyungandok consist of twelve books which is numbered by 12 Chinese letters. This is Giljae's letter style writing, telling gloomy political reality of Late Goryeo Kingdom.
